The World’s largest Junior dance Championships is the Junior British ‘Open to the World’ Championships held each year at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.  Entries from over 30 countries compete over the week-long festival.  In 2009 the festival runs from Monday 13 April to Sunday 19th April. 

This year the Juvenile (6 to under 12 years) and Junior (12 to 16 years) formation team Championships take place on Saturday 18th April 2009 and Sunday 19th April 2009.

Due to the growing number of formation teams, there were 87 teams in 2008, there have been changes to the timetable compared with recent years.  All the formation championships will now take place on Saturday 18th April and Sunday 19th April, and there will be no formation championships on the preceding Friday.  Unlike last year, there will only be formation championships at the weekend, and no other Latin or ballroom events.  Compared with last year, only the Junior 4 couple Championship is on the same day, and the rest of the formation events have changed days.

On Saturday 18th April 2009 the Juvenile 8 couple and Junior 4 couple Championships are being held.

On Sunday 19th April 2009 the Juvenile 4 couple and Junior 8 couple Championships are being held.

This year the ticket price is reduced if tickets for Saturday and Sunday are bought together.  However, Senior Citizens now have to pay the full price as adults, and not the reduced children price.

In 2010 the Junior Dance Championships is from Monday 5th April 2010 to Sunday 11th April 2010.

The British Dance Council is the governing body for ballroom and Latin American dancing in England and their rules are used for competition dancing.

2009 Review

In 2009 the formation team competitions took place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April 2009.  This was DWP’s third year in the Championships, and the first time DWP had entered two teams in the Junior 4 category.

The DWP Juvenile 4 couple team made the final and came 4th out of 24 teams.
The DWP Juvenile 6 couple 'Italia' team came 8th out of 17 teams, just missing out on getting to the final.
The DWP Junior 4 couple 'Happy Feet' team made the final and came 5th out of 27 teams.

The DWP Junior 4 couple 'The Beat' team came 13th out of 27 teams, just missing the semi-final by one point.

The DWP Junior 8 couple 'Cuba' team came 8th out of 21 team, just missing out on getting to the final.

2008 Review

In 2008 the formation team competitions took place on Friday 28th March to Sunday 30th March. This was DWP’s second year in the competition, and the first time DWP had entered a team in each formation category.

The DWP Juvenile 4 couple made the final, and came 5th out of 21 teams.

The DWP Juvenile 8 couple came 7th out of 20 teams, just missing out on getting to the final.
The DWP Junior 4 couple came 8th out of 25 teams, just missing out on getting to the final.
The DWP Junior 8 couple came 14th out of 21 teams in their ever first competition.

The competition was very strong, with a large increase in the number of teams taking part in the Championships. Some dance schools had entered multiple teams in each category. As with previous years, the finals were dominated by the talented formation teams from south Wales.

2007 Review

Dance with Passion came away with the Juvenile 4 Couple title in their first competition.  This is an amazing achievement considering the team only started 8 months ago.  A lot of hard work has been put in by the children and trainers which include Jason and Shemayne, Debbie and Rachel.

We also had great results in the Juvenile 6/8 couple where we came 6th out of 18, and in the Junior 4 couple we gained and incredible 9th out of 23 which was unbelievable as six of the eight dancers had never danced a step 7 months ago.
